Highlights
History comes alive
as we trace the coastlines and view the magnificent legacies of
these once mighty empires. Begin with a tour of Cairo’s
treasures before we set sail from the legendary port of Alexandria.
In Lebanon spend two days exploring the celebrated cities of Byblos
and Baalbek. Visit the ruins of Tanis, established by Ramses II,
before a daylight transit of the Suez Canal takes us to the resort
town of Sharm el Sheikh. We travel overland to the Monastery of
St. Catherine—a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We also spend
two days exploring the exquisite temples of Luxor and its impressive
royal tombs. In Saudi Arabia, visit Jeddah, the gateway to Mecca.
Visit the ruins of Suakin, Sudan, and snorkel or dive in the surrounding
waters teeming
with fish. In Eritrea witness Massawa’s eclectic architecture,
discover the Dahlak Archipelago’s diverse marine and bird
life, and stroll the charming town of Asmara, with its quintessential
Italian architecture.
