Tiny
islets, mangrove-canopied channels, and emerald lagoons distinguish
the Federated States of Micronesia, and we begin with an exploration
of the traditional island group of Yap. Zodiacs whisk us to
the shores of spectacular atolls where villagers welcome us
with drums and dances. Naturalist-led walks reveal profuse birdlife
and rare botanicals, while snorkeling and diving showcases coral
reefs teeming with life. Lush Pohnpei is a paradise of waterfalls
and flora and we explore its 92 megalithic man-made islands,

Highlights
From
the volcanic and verdant island of Pohnpei in Micronesia we
sail eastward into the Marshall Islands, a collage of low-lying
coral atolls bathed by crystal clear waters and known for famed
Bikini Atoll. Highlights are snorkeling and diving, walks along
pristine sands, and a chance to meet the Marshallese who are
renowned for superb navigational skills and ingenious canoe,
or wa, construction. We witness the scene of World War II battles
fought on Butaritari Atoll in the Kiribati Islands, then head
to the picture-perfect Polynesian islands of Tuvalu. In the
tiny capital of Funafuti, we are greeted by lively dances. Fiji’s
Taveuni and Lautoka, with their exquisite gardens and bird-haven
rain forests, complete our adventure. Can be combined with Micronesia.
